ELARA (in the middle 30s): The head librarian. Fiercely intelligent, pragmatic, and deeply committed to the power of knowledge.
MARCUS (about 20 yo): A young, passionate activist. A former student of Elara, now a member of the underground resistance.
VALERIUS (40 yo): A high-ranking officer of the Regime. Charismatic, articulate, and utterly ruthless. A true believer in order through control.
CITIZENS: 8 actors, (playing multiple roles): They represent the public, shifting from compliant to curious to rebellious.
Setting:
The stage is dominated by the interior of a large, ancient city library. However, it is a library under siege. The shelves are half-empty, with gaps where books once stood. A large, imposing Regime banner hangs on one wall. A single, bare light bulb hangs above a large central table, creating a pool of light in the otherwise dark space. To the right of the stage is a heavy, locked metal door.

The present, in a nation slowly being crushed by an authoritarian Regime.
